South Korea is one of the most attractive legal destinations for Uzbek workers. Through the official Employment Permit System (EPS), run government-to-government between Uzbekistan and Korea since 2006, workers can earn $1,500–2,500 per month legally — two to three times typical Russian wages — in manufacturing, agriculture, fishing, and construction.
The key advantage: EPS is a regulated, state-run channel. You apply through Uzbekistan's Migration Agency, not a private broker. This dramatically reduces scam risk. The trade-off is competition — you must pass a Korean language test (EPS-TOPIK) and places are limited by annual quota.
Register for the EPS-TOPIK exam through the Migration Agency. This is the single biggest hurdle — invest in real language training. Government vocational centers now offer certified Korean courses.
Passing applicants enter a pool. Korean employers select workers from this roster. You cannot pay to skip this — selection is by the system.
When selected, you receive a Standard Labor Contract. The terms are set by the EPS framework, not negotiable by a broker. Read it through the Contract Checker before signing.
With the contract, you receive an E-9 employment visa. Complete the mandatory pre-departure orientation — it covers your rights and life in Korea.
On arrival you complete a short orientation before starting work. Keep your own passport — your employer does not need to hold it.
EPS is largely state-subsidized, so legitimate costs are low. Be suspicious of any cost not on this list:
| EPS-TOPIK exam fee | ~$25 |
| Language training (varies) | $200–600 |
| Medical examination | ~$60 |
| Visa & document processing | $150–300 |
| Flight to Korea | $400–600 |
| Realistic total | ~$1,000–1,600 |
